BPA: “Tag der offenen Tür” (Open day)
The German government’s open day has become a firm fixture in the Berlin event calendar. 2006 was the eighth year in which the Government invited citizens to make an ‘official visit’ to the Chancellor’s office, the Federal press office and the ministries. This major event provides an ideal opportunity for citizens to gain an insight as to what goes on in the corridors of power. For the government, its “Tag der offenen Tür” offers an opportunity to get its policies across, in direct dialogue.
Johanssen + Kretschmer has now designed and organised the Federal Chancellery and government press and information office’s open day four times. In addition, the agency has coordinated and managed cross-institutional promotional activities, the production of the brochure and the securing of sponsors.
The guiding principle behind Johanssen + Kretschmer’s event concept has been to present a government that communicates and acts with its citizens as equals. This has included placing the focus, in writing and graphically, on the personal “Invitation to make a State Visit”. Such humility of expression is designed to symbolise the political understanding of the new government, of viewing politics as the act of working for the people. True to this claim, a balanced programme of information, ‘edutainment’ and entertainment was conceived.
The campaign combined the government’s aim of conveying political information with citizens’ expectations of being provided with an insight into everyday government life.
